Event Report - BIM Demystified

12 May 2015

A brief report on the recent event.

Nathan Hildebrandt’s presentation, “The Devil is in the Data – BIM Demystified,” took the ACA Qld/NT members and guests on an interesting journey through a number of BIM Myths and provided descriptions for the myriad Building Information Modelling acronyms.

The key message was to start your BIM journey sooner rather than later. If changes are implemented on demand, without adequate research, there is huge potential for failure and even inability to win work due to lack of experience. Focus should be on capability to meet deliverables using OPENBIM workflows to ensure full collaboration abilities.

Nathan believes that the critical factor in successful BIM collaboration is accurate, relevant data provided in an agreed manner. In Australia it is hard to consistently deliver this with the current constraints the industry faces including no Federal Government direction or mandate on standard, lack of skilled staff and fear of change.
