+QUEENSLAND

ACA Queensland

The Association of Consulting Architects [Qld] is the state organisation of employer Architects and represents the interests of all sizes of architectural practices across the State.

The ACA is a National body with branches or representations in each State & Territory. Its function is to deal with important issues and challenges relating particularly to the management of business of Architecture from the perspective of the employer, thus differing from the RAIA which represents architects as both employees & employers.

ACA was formed to deal with particular matters that might frustrate RAIA, through a conflict of interest, in attempting to address and resolve such matters. In effect ACA works in both a complementary and supplementary way with the RAIA in relation to architectural practice matters.

Each State Executive Committee consists of a group of architects from a range of practices, both large and small. Their input is voluntary at no cost.

Generally the ACA [Qld] committee undertakes the following activities:

COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES

  • regular meetings
  • representation on the Australian Council of Building Design Professionals [BDP]
  • representation on the Australian Construction Industry Forum
  • representation at and contributions to construction industry conferences
  • appointing working parties to address and resolve special ongoing issues
  • regular liaison meetings with government bodies
  • co-ordination with, and contribution to, ACA nationally

PRACTICE MATTERS

  • Clerical & Draftspersons Awards
  • Input to matters regarding regulation of Architects
  • Reviewing contracts and agreements
  • Copyright & Moral Rights issues
  • Reviewing methods of project procurement
  • Promoting Qualification Based Selection and proper fee arrangements
